Nick Bulgarino

Nick Bulgarino is a Washington, D.C. based freelance musician who has been performing, arranging, teaching, and organizing concerts since he was 18. Nick’s passion for music is not bound by genre; he has played in groups ranging from small chamber ensembles, big bands, historically informed performances, and symphony orchestras.

Nick is an active freelancer who currently holds positions with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra and Teatro Nuovo. He has performed with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra, Capitol Philharmonic of New Jersey, Washington Chamber Orchestra, and Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed for the Ambassade de France, and the ground breaking ceremony for the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Nick’s musical education started while studying with David Sciannella from elementary school through his time at DeMatha Catholic High School, where he played with the DeMatha Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Peabody Youth Orchestra, and Catholic University Wind Ensemble.

Nick went on to study with Larry Zalkind at the Eastman School of Music, where he received his Bachelor of Music in 2018. At Eastman, he performed with the Eastman Trombone Choir, Wind Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonia, and discovered his passion for early music playing alto sackbut with the Christ Church Schola Cantorum. During his time at Eastman, Nick participated as a student with the Endless Mountain Music Festival and Summer Trombone Workshop, led by Haim Avitsur.

Nick continued his education at the Peabody Conservatory, studying under David Murray, and received his Master of Music in 2020. At Peabody, Nick performed under the direction of Dr. Harlan Parker, Joseph Young and Marin Alsop. Nick holds the honor of being the conservatory’s first sackbut student, performing with the Baltimore Baroque Band and Peabody Renaissance Ensemble.

Outside of music, Nick’s interests are model railroading in O Scale 2-Rail, vintage SEGA video game collecting, computer gaming, and spending time with his wife and friends.
